Antes de realizar meu match com minha atual host family, conversei com ela e com mais 3 famílias americanas. O que me deixava mais receosa em relação às conversas eram as perguntas que eu precisaria fazer e as respostas que precisaria dar para tudo que eles me perguntassem. E o pior: tudo isso em inglês!
Antes de vir para os EUA, eu não tinha noção da importância dessas perguntas, mas hoje, sempre que posso dar uma dica para as Au Pairs que estão no começo do processo eu digo: não deixem de perguntar nada e sejam vocês mesmas! Nenhuma host family é perfeita, mas se você deixar claro para ela quem você é e o que pretende realizar nos EUA, melhor. Eles não terão surpresas. Mas para que você também não tenha grandes surpresas, não deixe de perguntar nada! E para ajudar as meninas que estão no momento tenso das entrevistas, fiz umas listinhas com as perguntas básicas que você deve fazer para a host family.
Não esqueça que a maioria das respostas dessas perguntas você poderá encontrar no perfil da família na página da Au Pair Care (Au Pair Room) e pelos primeiros e-mails que vocês trocarem, mas fica aqui o reforço para que vocês não esqueçam de nenhum detalhe!

Como vocês podem ver, a maioria das perguntas são imprescindíveis. Algumas são meio óbvias, mas, mesmo assim, não deixe de perguntar.
Se a família já tiver uma au pair e você puder conversar com ela, faça O MAIOR NÚMERO DE PERGUNTAS POSSÍVEL. São elas que lhe dirão como a família é na visão de uma au pair, de alguém que trabalha para a família. Se a au pair já voltou para seu país de origem, peça algum contato dela (como e-mail ou Facebook) para a família e explique o motivo.
Já li por aí que muitas vezes as futuras au pairs durante uma match se encantam com uma família, mas depois que conversam com a atual au pair, desanimam completamente. Portanto, aproveitem todas as oportunidades e tirem todas as suas dúvidas nas interviews. Se houver algo que você não se sinta tão a vontade de perguntar pelo telefone ou skype, escreva em algum e-mail, mas não guarde para você. Eu só tomei minha decisão final de vir para minha atual host family depois de falar com as 3 ex-au pairs. Tudo que elas me falaram sobre a família foi exatamente o que encontrei quando cheguei e não me arrependo de nada.
Estou muito feliz aqui! Enfatize muito as perguntas sobre suas obrigações na casa, principalmente sobre cozinhar e limpar. E pergunte também sobre curfew (horário para chegar em casa) e qual será a disponibilidade do carro pra você. Eu moro no estado da Pensilvânia e tenho que dizer: é impossível viver aqui sem carro. Se sua família não liberar pra você no seu tempo off, pense bem antes de escolhê-la. Essas coisas farão toda a diferença na sua nova vida! Beijão e boa sorte!
